Budget Priorities

More funding for Aged Care

This Budget provides for better residential and community care services for older Australians.

The Government will provide 6,000 additional Community Aged Care Packages to meet the needs of frail older Australians and enable them to continue living in their own homes. The Government also will provide additional funding to support carers of older Australians, carers of people with dementia and ageing carers of people with disabilities.

Aged care homes will receive increased subsidies to help them attract and retain more aged care nurses. Funding also will be provided for aged care nursing scholarships at rural and regional university campuses and for personal care staff in smaller homes to undertake courses in geriatric care.
