Budget Priorities
More funding
for Aged Care
This Budget provides for better
residential and community care services for older Australians.

The Government will provide 6,000 additional
Community Aged Care Packages to meet the needs of frail
older Australians and enable them to continue living in
their own homes. The Government also will provide additional
funding to support carers of older Australians, carers
of people with dementia and ageing carers of people with
disabilities.

Aged care homes will receive increased
subsidies to help them attract and retain more aged care
nurses. Funding also will be provided for aged care nursing
scholarships at rural and regional university campuses
and for personal care staff in smaller homes to undertake
courses in geriatric care.

The Government will provide additional
funding to help upgrade or replace small aged care homes
in rural and remote areas, which face relatively high
costs owing to their size and location.
