Australian Government budget aggregates

The table below shows the main cash and accrual budget aggregates for the Australian Government general government sector over the period 2003-04 to 2008-09(a). The underlying cash surplus is estimated to be $8.9 billion in 2005-06. The fiscal surplus is estimated to be $7.4 billion. More comprehensive information is provided in Budget Paper No. 1, Budget Strategy and Outlook 2005-06, Statement 2.

  1. All estimates are based on Government Finance Statistics (GFS) standards, but with goods and services tax (GST) revenue collected on behalf of the states and territories netted off revenue and expenses.
  2. Excludes expected Future Fund earnings from 2005-06 onwards.
