  1. Consistent with Part 9 of the Native Title Act 1993, the Australian Government has made a commitment to assist the States to meet their potential compensation liabilities for the extinguishment or impairment of native title. No agreements have been concluded and as a result there are unlikely to be any payments made in the immediate future. Mechanisms are in place to enable funds to be made available as agreements are made and payments fall due.
