The White Paper followed a major review of Australia's defence requirements and maintains the Government's strong commitment to national security through the development of Australia's armed forces.

The Government has outlined a ten year capability enhancement plan expected to increase defence spending by around $28 billion over ten years.

major funding to enhance Australia's military capability

Major enhancements include the acquisition of four Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft, bringing six Collins class submarines to a high level of capability and providing Australia with six permanent battalion groups.

This budget provides Defence funding of more than $5 billion over four years to begin implementing the military enhancements outlined in the White Paper.

The Government is committed to pursuing further reforms to Defence budgeting and financial management to ensure that this increased funding delivers value for money.
